Ruin Has Come
A downloadable game
What if you cannot save everyone? What if there is no “greater good” or “lesser evil”? What if you have to make the call, without the comfort of excuses and platitudes? What if all you have is what you carry through the night? Ruin Has Come puts you in the shoes of the leaders of a doomed town, deciding what they value and what they are willing to sacrifice, so maybe some of them survive to see the next sunrise.
During the night, beings of darkness seek to destroy your town. You need to suffer losses and sacrifice what you seek to protect, seeking to learn more each time, until eventually you push them back. During the day, you must appease the people, rebuild, seek help and even fight off against the darkness.
About Ruin Has Come
Ruin Has Come is a GMless/GMful game of loss, sacrifice, and how we value things.
Players play the leaders, such as they are, of a town, such as it is, besieged by the forces of darkness. Once you create your town, leaders and townsfolks, play happens in two phases: night and dawn.
During night, Threats emerge from Dungeons to destroy the safe havens where townsfolk take shelter. You take turns making the hard decisions: when if left unchecked, the entire town will be ruined, whom are you willing to risk losing? You keep trying to stop the threats, making increasingly costly sacrifices, trying to gain an edge over the Darkness with insight paid with tears and blood.
If you survive a night, you get to play the dawn. Each leader gets dice dependent on their individual power and influence; they pool dice into actions, trying to rebuild during daytime. They can retake the ruins, venture into the dungeons, govern the townsfolk, seek outsider help, delve into dark knowledge or even try to know their own town better.
Then, if you up to the task, night comes again...
